Eleanor is watching time fly. Are you?

September is already over!  I feel like this semester is moving quickly, which is a bittersweet feeling.  I am excited to be finished with classes, but I have some nerves about student teaching and the edTPA.  Now that we have all been in our classrooms at least once, were the concerns that you listed on the first class blog prompt as big a deal as you thought they would be?  If so, please explain why.  How can you continue to tackle these problems and what are you doing to overcome your nervous feelings?  Please also let me know how you are feeling about student teaching and becoming a teacher in the near future.  I can hardly believe we are almost finished!"

Veronica and kindergarten questions

After a long year of remote learning, it feels great to be back teaching in person and in an actual classroom again. However, many children are still getting used to this adjustment.  In addition, some students have not had any experience in a physical classroom due to the pandemic. I am currently placed in a kindergarten classroom, where many of the students have never been in an actual classroom. My cooperating teacher takes pride in her classroom management strategies and she is still struggling to get some students to behave appropriately. Is anyone else seeing this issue in their placement classrooms? What are some of the classroom management strategies that you have seen being implemented in order to prevent inappropriate behavior? Help!!!!

Maria is interested in more teaching responsibility

As student teachers, do you think we should assume more responsibility in the classroom? If so, when? Would you like to be taking on more classroom projects? What are some ways in which we can ask our cooperating teacher to delegate and give us greater responsibility? Before we teach for the first time, would you want your cooperating teacher to have you do a demo lesson so you could see/get to know how the students in your class learn best? How will you (as a student teacher) handle this issue of assuming more responsibility and gaining more experience?

Deanna is interested in decisions we have made

One thing I always find interesting about a teacher is how/when they realized that teaching was going to be their profession. When did you realize that you wanted to be a teacher? Were your friends and family supportive of this career decision?  Was there a particular teacher who influenced you along the way?

Dr. Ries asks a question about student teaching

What is your greatest concern as you face student observation and student teaching this year?  What can this class do to help you overcome some of those concerns?

Eleanor wants us to think deeply about the semester.

We are finishing up our observation hours in the next couple of weeks.  I remember my first prompt, I was amazed at how quickly September ...
